B.J. Habibie
B.J. Habibie was born in Parepare in 1936. Habibie studied in Germany. His life was full of struggles, he often had to save money to keep studying. But because of his hard work and intelligence, he became a famous engineer. The world even called him “Mr. Crack” for his discovery about airplane safety.
Even though he was successful abroad, Habibie returned to Indonesia. He wanted his country to grow through technology. His big achievement was the N-250 Gatotkaca, the first airplane made in Indonesia that flew in 1995. It proved that Indonesians could do it too.
In 1998, Habibie became the 3rd President of Indonesia. Even though it was only for a short time, he made many changes, especially for democracy. Habibie was also known as loyal and romantic to his wife, Ainun. Their love story became an inspiration for many people. From Habibie we learn to dream big, study hard, and never give up even when life is difficult.
